So glad to hear from you. Yes, you are correct. I read about Esparza some years ago and I should have checked on how much I knew and those significant facts you gave us. I promise to read and reread the history because that history is so important. Thank you. RR

I read the article regarding Richard Arredondo and the portion that mentions Elvira Cortez Arredondo, his mother tracing her roots to Gregorio Esparza, the sole male survivor at the Battle of the Alamo, Gregorio Esparza did not survive the battle. He fought and died at the battle but was the sole defender that received a Christian burial. This occurred because of the efforts of his brother Francisco Esparza. Francisco Esparza was a member of the General Santa Anna's Presidential Calvary Company from San Antonio de Bejar. Francisco went to General Cos and asked to permission to claim his brother's body so he could be given a Christian burial. General Cos interceded for Francisco to General Santa Anna and permission was granted, thus Gregorio was the only defender body to receive a Chistian buried and not buried on the funeral pyres or discarded into a river.
