Three hundred years ago, a small band of Spanish friars and Mexican mestizo soldiers with their families built a Spanish village near the Yanaguana River [San Antonio River] headwaters.
Great piece Ricardo! It made me really think about all the work that was being done around the country at the same time. Xochil down in Mission and RCAF in Sacramento to name a couple. While I'm certain that the Cheech will chronicle, display and house much of this important work, I also wonder how the part of the narrative that is the important work of people like Alice Valdez, Cynthia and Libby, Sylvia, Veronica Enriquez, the Vidaurris in Harlingen, Diana Arigo, Zarco and Carmen DeNovais, Carlos Gallego and all the work around Lincoln Center in El Paso, Juntos and Diana Molina. I could go on and on about all the good work I've witnessed over the years, not just in the visual arts. I love that you are contributing to the scholarship, which I've always believed is the key to legitimizing the work.
Great work Ricardo. What a contribution you are making.
