Small nonprofit art galleries in San Antonio play an important role in promoting Latino art. The Centro Cultural Aztlan has served the Latino art community for forty-five years and recently added two new galleries to its Northwest side compound. Luminaria, known principally for its annual light shows, has found exhibit space adjacent to its St. Paul Square office for pop-art exhibits.
Dr. Romo, I am always intrigued by your vision and insight. The "Latinos in America" show is remarkable and extends one's imagination beyond the normal and complacent. Yes, we as Mexicanos are mostly earth people but not limited in scope or understanding. My vision was singularly captured by the works of Sandra Gonzalez' "Strength," Suzy Gonzalez' "Ella Es;" Marco Murillo' "Zapata;" and Andrea V. Rivas' "Nina Maria." In particular, I am moved by Sandra Gonzalez's rendering in her "Strength" painting... that is a powerful and depicts a cosmic woman that excites all of one's energies and sensibilities. Sight alone for the viewer captivates the inner being (in thought only) that such an earthling exists...while Murillo's "Zapata" and Galvan's "Compadres" paintings provide an unexpected balance in the humanity they represent. Notwithstanding, the entire collection is beautifully done, meaningful, as well as cultivating and inspiring the phenomenon of what it is to be Mexicano.
