Ricardo, I really enjoyed this piece on the Chicano Art Movement. For various reasons I never really connected the dots between the social movements of the times with the art produced. I should have because in Mexico, in the capital, the art all around the university (UNAM) was very much representative of the struggles of the times.

Maybe, the struggles are necessary for creative inspiration. That's been the case for me. For the last 17 years I've been fighting for exoneration from a wrongful conviction. And in those first years the system tried to break me by placing me in solitary confinement for 3 years without any misconduct on my part. And to survive I wrote two novels that I later published. Somehow the torment presented me with creative juices that I didn't even know I had.

Sometimes when I look at art I feel the emotion of the artist. I was never able to do this before. But now I can and that is definitely an improvement in me.

Again, Thanks
