Rudy Treviño came of age during the tumultuous 1960s era that revolutionized art, music, and culture in America. Treviño joined a new brand of Chicano artists who shared an irritation with conventional assimilation and acculturation models and assumptions. Chicano artists viewed themselves as rebels.
I think that Rudy Treviño was a a student at UTSA in the 1970’s even earlier. As I recall, he and Carolina Flores were our first MFA students in UTSA’s very newMFA program that we were establishing in 1974–before we even had the 1604 campus!
The sixties was a period of awakening for Chicanos throughout the United States...the Vietnam War took its toll but Chicano culture and artistic expression exploded realistically and united us as a people ...today, we need to unite once again and thanks to artist Rudy Trevino and Dr. Romo for helping us to remember who we are, and what we must do; to not only survive the current wave of fascism that wants to subjugate us, but unite our resolve to eliminate it....Mario Longoria

Rudy inspired many youth from the Westside barrio and was an example of
success for many.
